In 2018 we built an contemporary style annex in a garden in Frome. The space was designed to be an adaptable and quiet space that can be used as a art studio, meditation space or spare room. The timber framed building sits on a geo cell (recycled glass) foundation, the structure is insulated with natural materials throughout, sheeps wool insulation and wood fibre in the walls and wooden batt and wood fibre insulation in the roof. The whole building is lime plastered and the floor is clad in English oak floorboards. Externally the building has clad in local larch rain screen cladding. A large aluminium sliding door links the space to the beautiful surrounding garden. A small bathroom is off the main room and a log storage area completes the building. Externally an untreated larch decking area creates a clean link between the inside and out. We think this modern style building sits well within the garden, providing a striking and natural space in which to spend time.
